Patch v1.0.4

January 18, 2020 in New Version by Tom

Hi folks!

If you missed it, Lenna’s Inception released on Steam yesterday for $9.99 / £7.19! If you buy it and enjoy it, please remember to leave a review on the store page — it would help us out inordinately, by proving our worth to the almightly Algorithm!

It’s now the day after release, and yep, that means it’s patch time! Lenna’s Inception might be a game about glitches, but some of them are unintended it seems…

Patch v1.0.4 Release Notes

  • Fixed a couple of ways cut-scenes could be interrupted by phone calls and pizza deliveries.
  • Fixed a bug that sometimes randomly returned control to the player during cut-scenes.
  • Fixed some items of the player’s weaponry unintentionally palette-swapping to match the currently-equipped tunic.

A few other issues have been reported to us on Discord — we’ll be addressing them in patches over the coming days.

And of course if you have an issue you would like to report to us, you can report it on our Discord server, or by email.

Frequently Asked Questions

I bought the game on itch.io a while ago, how can I get my Steam key?

We’ve had a few reports of itch.io users who have not been able to claim their Steam keys. We’re looking into the issue!

Edit: if you bought the game on itch.io during beta and are experiencing this issue claiming your key, you need to contact itch support.

How do I set up co-op?

Co-op has to first be enabled in Story Mode:

  1. Player 1 plays through the story until obtaining the Power of Fortitude (about halfway through the first dungeon, 5 minutes into the game).
  2. At that point, player 1 can exit the dungeon and enter the Shadow Temple, pictured below, which is always near the starting town.
  3. Inside the Shadow Temple, activate the altar. A short cut-scene will play out, and end by telling you to plug in a second controller.

You currently need two controllers attached regardless of whether player 1 is using the keyboard. This is something we’ll address in a patch.

How do I set up Steam’s Remote Play Together?

Steam’s new Remote Play Together feature allows you to stream your game to a friend to play “local co-op” remotely, over an Internet connection.

It currently seems like controller input is not being synced from the remote player correctly. We’re investigating the issue! For now, the remote player will need to be playing as player 1, with a keyboard, and the host will need to play as player 2, with a controller!

Lenna’s Inception is out now!

January 17, 2020 in Announcements, New Version by Tom

Hi folks!

It’s finally happened — Lenna’s Inception is releasing today! It’s been a long journey and I’m so thankful for all of the support and encouragement that everyone has given over the years. Right — let’s get to business, shall we?

What is Lenna’s Inception?

Lenna’s Inception is an action-adventure RPG from our indie team, Bytten Studio! You can find more info in previous blog posts and our game’s site. It is currently available on Windows and Linux platforms.

Where can I buy Lenna’s Inception?
Lenna’s Inception is available on Steam and Itch.io, and costs $9.99 / £7.19 / € 8.19.

What’s more, we are pleased to announce that we’re also selling the soundtrack on Steam! The soundtrack contains both the 32-bit and 8-bit versions of each track from our composer Joel Baylis. The soundtrack is available from today alongside the game, and will cost $5.99 / £4.79 / €4.99.

If you want to support both us and our talented composer, we also have a Steam bundle that contains both the game and the soundtrack, saving you 10%!

I bought Lenna’s Inception in Beta! Can I get the game on Steam?

If you bought the game on Humble or itch.io in Beta, you’ll be able to claim a Steam key through your purchase page on the respective store!

I’m a streamer! Can I request a key to stream?

You certainly can – we’ve had a great time watching streamers play our game! You can request a key through Keymailer here.

How can I support the game?

Tell your friends about the game, and leave us a good review if you like it! You can also get involved with our community to keep up to date with all the news and happenings (see below).

How can I keep up to date with Bytten Studio and its community?

Join our Discord! We’d love to chat to you about Lenna’s Inception and other things! If you have any questions about the game, feel free to stop by and ask us! You can also post to our Lenna’s Inception Subreddit.

You can also follow Bytten Studio on Twitter to keep up with what we’re up to.

Thank you all so much for coming on this journey with us. Catch y’all next time!

0.12 and the future

September 20, 2017 in New Version, Screenshots by Tom

Hi everyone! A new version is available today! Also included in this post is some info about future plans for Lenna’s Inception.

v0.12 update

v0.12 is now stable and available for download on itch.io and Humble. As always, you can get it by following these steps.

If you’ve been playing recently on the unstable branch on itch.io, not much will have changed. The ‘unstable’ branch is intended as a preview of the features I’m currently working on. Compared with yesterday’s unstable branch version, the only change in this new version is a handful of bugfixes.

For everyone else, here’s a quick run-down of the new features:

Local co-op

Local co-op has been completely revamped. The second player now controls Shadow Lenna, a character with all the same abilities and stats as Lenna herself.

The beta10 update is now available. It includes new areas, story events, various graphical and map generation improvements, and fixes for some serious bugs affecting Mac users.

Get it here.

See my previous post for the full summary of improvements:

Lenna’s Inception has come a long way in the three months since beta9. Beta10 is almost here, so here’s a quick roundup of screenshots and information I’ve been sharing on twitter!

The storyline has been mostly implemented. Just the endings, and the optional side-quests are missing right now. The laboratory and palace locations have been redesigned and reimplemented, along with hand-designed puzzles you’ll need to solve to get through them.

The laboratory has fallen into disrepair:

Amongst the changes are:

There are some massive story changes occurring, but they’re not complete yet. In its current state, not all quests are completable. If you’re not sure where to go next, check your map for the location of the next dungeon.

Beta8 has landed

December 19, 2015 in Announcements, New Version by Tom

I’ve just pushed the button to release beta8 on itch.io! Humble will get the update as well, after a short delay. To get the update, follow these instructions.

It’s past 4 AM on a Saturday morning, so I’ll keep this post short and instead refer back to my previous post for the contents of the update:

I’m currently putting in the last of the new features for beta8 this evening (sound effects for new items, actions and tiles). What’s left after that is fixing the remaining bugs, testing and then releasing the beta8 update! You can see my progress towards the release on my trello board.

As I wrote last month, the new GBA-style graphics won’t be included in beta8, they’ll be in a future update instead. The current plan is for both styles to be available in the final game.

While I’m here, here’s a full list of all the new features in beta8:
